South Atlanta High School basketball coach Michael Reddick said it won't be hard to find talent in tonight's Old Spice Basketball Showcase matchup at Bartow Arena between his team and LeFlore of Mobile.
That talent will be on display not only at Bartow but at 8 o'clock on ESPN2.
The talent goes beyond the two biggest names in the spotlight, the marquee duo of South Atlanta's Derrick Favors and LeFlore's DeMarcus Cousins.
Favors announced Wednesday night that he will attend Georgia Tech. Cousins has committed to UAB, but he backed off the commitment when UAB wouldn't agree to a waiver to release him if Blazers coach Mike Davis weren't the coach.
South Atlanta's supporting cast includes 6-foot-5 shooting guard Andre Malone, who has signed with Auburn, and 6-8 sophomore Nick Jacobs. The Hornets, ranked No. 9 in the country in the ESPN Fab 50, are 13-1 with the lone loss coming to No. 19 Lawrence North of Indiana.
LeFlore head coach Otis Hughley said seniors Darryl Woods, Marlon Ford, Gerald Watkins and Denziel McDaniel and 6-9 Kentari Nettles are all capable of being "explosive scorers."
LeFlore, the No. 7 team in the nation, is 18-2 with losses to No. 2 Oak Hill Academy of Virginia (68-66) and No. 17 Los Angeles Fairfax (55-51).
The LeFlore-South Atlanta game will follow a girls game between two of the top programs in Alabama. The matchup between Ramsay (12-10) and Bob Jones (18-3) begins at 6 and will not be televised.
